Advice:
In order to comply with several new laws, you need to have a
data protection plan in place and operational. Windows does provide a
"Restore" feature though is limited in disk space allocation
and the control of regular restore points.
The IBM Continuous Data Protection (CDP) program puts you in charge
of when, where and what data is shielded. It does consume disk space
based
on your settings and some processing power. In
light of the tangible benefits, this is a minor consideration for vital
files & to prove compliance.
If you do use data destruction applications, please be aware
copies of a deleted file(s) will be recoverable depending
the settings and timing.
CDP
With Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files, you help
optimize recovery times for file servers and recovery point objectives
(RPO). Typically a file server is backed up once a night. The degree
of difference between the recoverable data and the latest version of
the file can be significant if many changes are made between backups.
(This degree of difference is known as the RPO.)
When
important files are changed, CDP will
make an immediate
local copy of the file. You are protected
even if not on a network. The application can be set to schedule
another copy to go to some off-machine target, such as an USB disk,
a file server
/ NAS,
an
internet provider, etc.
