We find operating with the same brand of protection can lead to complacency or overconfidence. For example, permissions tend to be extended to broader line applications that access the internet or are allowed in over time. Personnel that have left your organization are familiar with your safeguards and routines and can carry that knowledge with them. A determined intruder can start to penetrate even the best protection if you are too consistent.

To become "Simply unpredictable", you need to change your security strategy by mixing things up a bit. This includes switching protection software and settings from time to time to keep outsiders guessing- they love default settings. Consider taking advantage of the ways leading vendors look at the security world through different eyes and experiences. If you have been compromised or suspect you are being targeted, it is a good time to become "not the same" and to look for alternatives.

Many organizations have a mix of systems for various good reasons. A key application may still reside on a different operating system & is doing just fine and the right price- thank you very much.
