Mobile use creates and accumulates a large bag of knowledge of your personal information, just like a PC. CSI shows love to show off how they know where someone was and when & whom their were communicating with in several ways. As you interact with the web and chat & message friends, new acquaintances, relatives and business contacts, the bigger it gets. Unfortunately, it has opened up a new and lucrative playing field for the identity thieves, hackers, and even business/government that want to snag your digital identities. This identity info is valuable to advertisers, crooks and debt collectors.

Why use anti- virus software?
One word the "Internet". If you, 1.- Browse emails or listening to streaming music,  especially if you are using widgets and applications. 2.- Use bluetooth to transfer data. Do not accept connections and data transfers from people you do not know or trust. 3.- Use a Flash Drive to share information. Run your anti virus against all files prior to transfer from your PC via a flash drive and visa versa.

Top Tips!

1.- Never assume that voice calls are confidential (like fax or email), especially when calling internationally where some countries' phone operators have no encryption security in place at all. Check your signal, calls on 3G are more secure than 2G but often falls back to 2G when 3G is unavailable.

2.- Keep your phone safe and do not leave it lying around. Skilled attackers can take just a few moments to install a malicious program, compromise the security of the SIM card or install a special battery with a bug in it, all of which can later be used to help intercept calls.

4.- Be vigilant to prevent malicious software on your phone. Be wary of texts, system messages or events on your phone that you did not ask for, initiate or expect. There is security software now to address & meet a number of security needs- just like your personal computer. For most devices, it is a straight forward download and set up. Be sure to get the right program for your mobile operating system, like Google- Android, Blackberry- their own or QNX on the new pad, etc.

5.- Turn off Bluetooth if you are not using it. Consider anti-virus / anti-malware software, and if you strongly suspect your calls are being listened to then turn off the phone when you don't need it and remove the battery as an extreme precaution.

6.- Use voice call encryption software on your phone to secure your sensitive calls that works worldwide and is as easy to use as making a normal phone call. If you have no alternative (such as using encryption software) and urgently need to discuss confidential matters over a mobile phone.
